Q. "Why did you want to be a
part of the mentor program?"
Leeto. "At first I wanted to learn more about
computers, it has turned into creating a story".
Q. "What did you want to get
from the program?"
Leeto. "I would like to make a short story, or a book and develop skills that might help me to be an author some day".
Q. "What are
you working on?"
Leeto. "We are working on a short story which will help
me with my literacy ability."
Q. "Are you enjoying the program?"
Leeto." This
program is enjoyable because I express my creativity."
Q. "Are you getting
any benefit from the program?"
Leeto." The benefit I am getting from the program
is a better way of expressing myself with words and improving my literacy.
I am gradually improving my literacy at school in the areas of spelling and
pronunciation.
I hope to
become an author in the future, writing a book every 5
years."
Leeto's mentor is Jill.
Jill said: "I wanted to be part of the program in order to give something back to the community and to share some of the things we have learned"
" We started with a focus on learning computer skills. The idea of
a short story evolved from our first meeting when we worked on developing a
character profile as a method of establishing what Leeto knew about using MS
Word. From there the story has started to develop a life of its own"
"Leeto has blossomed as the story has taken shape. He is more
confident and communicative; he really seems to enjoy the challenge of building
the story and adding depth to the characters he has created"
"We are now
editing the story and working on public speaking in preparation for the end of
year celebration. I look forward to hearing Leeto read his
story to the gathering"
