Confusion and headaches were going through my head before I was introduced to the mentor program. I went to my teacher, Ms Jones, and told her all about my problem, how I couldn't decide my pathway to my future.
That day, that moment, I was introduced to the mentor program. Ms Jones told me anyone that needs any particular help, you meet with your mentor one-to-one. You choose the place, you choose the hour, you choose the day.
So my mouth burst with words and I said, "Can he help me with my problem?
"Yes" said my teacher. "There is someone named Peter that specialises in that and he will agree to see you on Thursday".
The thought that came to mind was that if Peter was a nice person that I can share personal feelings with him, and at the same time feel comfortable talking to him, I didn't care about anything else. Indeed he was the nicest person that I ever came across.
We talked about my problem. He even said that he can help me. He told me many ways that can be linked to my future. He has done so much for me. For example, he has helped me find work experience at the Koorie Heritage Centre, which is compulsory to my VCE unit. We used the computer equipment that the Flemington Neighbourhood House provided for us.
My mentor helped me with my VCE course selection. He is now helping me to find a part time job, which I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping to find something.
Me and my mentor share a very nice relationship with each other and I hope it continues.
