Use of ICT and flexible delivery to learners ACFE

This project will investigate the role of Information Communication Technology(ICT)enabled delivery as part of a blended delivery strategy that can increase participation by learners in ACE education and training.

The aim of this project is to provide and example of a blended delivery model used at the Flemington Reading and Writing Program.

The project was developed to suit the needs of students at FRWP who desire to undertake training at FRWP but are unable to attend all of the classes. Our classes are targeted to provide students with workplace ready skills. Some students miss classes due to the need to look after their children, demands of casual work or overwork at home.

For students who come to all the classes they learn progressively practical skills in the relevant subject.
Some students try to undertake homework on their own computer and have difficulty as their own computer is usually different to those in class.

The project undertaken at FRWP during 2007 has used the following approach:
Students come from all backgrounds
All ESL students have access to a computer and a login to the FRWP network
Some students with children have difficulty attending all classes so
we provide on line tutorials for students so they can practice at home
Open source software has been provided to students so the can practice on their own home computer
We have provided linux computers to some students who did not have a computer at home
A virtual private network was used so that students could access their class work from home
